Recurrence of keratoconus in donor cornea 22 years after successful keratoplasty.

چکیده
We report a second clinico-pathologic report of recurrent keratoconus in a 43-year-old white female with bilateral penetrating keratoplasties for keratoconus. She was found to have a recurrence of this condition in the right eye as manifested by increasing myopic oblique astigmatism, subepithelial and anterior stromal scarring and corneal thinning, 22 years following the initial grafting procedure. A second successful penetrating keratoplasty was performed. Light and electron microscopy demonstrated abnormalities in the basal epithelium, breaks in the basement membrane, duplication and thickening of Bowman's layer, and abnormal stromal keratocytes with accumulation of granular intraand extracellular material. These findings are consistent with changes as seen in keratoconus.

Purpose: To determine the etiologic factors on rejection and failure rates and ocular surface changes after corneal transplantation by either DALK or PKP, in cases of keratoconus (KCN). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, considering the existing data, patients with keratoconus referring to Labbafinejad Medical Center from 2006 to 2016, who underwent corneal transplantation, were enrolled a...

PURPOSE To evaluate retrospectively the corneal endothelium in 15 eyes which showed clear cornea for 20 years or longer after penetrating keratoplasty. METHODS The corneal endothelium was investigated in 15 eyes. The causative lesion had been keratoconus in 10 eyes and herpetic keratitis in 5 eyes. At the time of surgery, the patients were aged from 6 to 45 years, average 25.3 +/- 10.4 years....

PURPOSE To report the recurrence of keratoconus 49 months after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). CASE REPORT A 21-year-old man with history of bilateral keratoconus who had undergone DALK in his right eye, presented with gradual visual loss 49 months after corneal transplantation. Slit lamp biomicroscopy revealed graft ectasia together with Vogt's striae in the posterior stroma and...

متن کامل[Suitability of newborn donor corneal graft in penetrating keratoplasty].
OBJECTIVE The lower recommended age of the donor cornea is a controversial matter. Although newborn corneas have a high endothelial cell density, there are anatomical, refractive (myopic shift) and postoperative problems. Two cases are analyzed; one had an atypical refractive result and the other an unexpectedly severe immune response. We also review the use of pediatric donor corneas in penetr...
